Our Day

"Education is the most powerful weapon which   you can use to change the world". Nelson Mandela

We have two big open plan rooms for all children to investigate and play. We have lots of interesting equipment for the children to explore, using their imagination and extending on their learning. The sand, sensory try and Art easel are always out, and the sand tray doesn't always contain sand!

There are always a wide selection of jigsaws of varying difficulty, out for the children to use. There are teacher supervised games, with the objective of learning colour, shape or number.

The children are encouraged to use the story corner where we can snuggle up on a bean bag and read a book or have the children act out stories for one another. The children all enjoy the home corner and the various role play areas.

The Friary Nursery School has two outside areas. The rear where we grow various things in the right seasons, such as Sunflowers, strawberries, potatoes and tomatoes. The front where we have a large selection of play activities. We have access to the Friary Gardens which has large, walled lawned areas. It is located across the private road from the nursery, Friars Lane.

Half way through the session we have a drink and a snack and go outside to play. We have various mark making activities, such as crayons,  felt tips, pastels, white boards, art easel and paints, Magna doodle boards, chalks and chalk boards.

The Friary Nursery School has a wide selection of dressing up clothes based on various topics and stories. We have 2 Ipads for the children to use whichever room they are in.

When it's really bad weather we stay indoors and have music and movement, and other physical activities in the Nursery.  We celebrate a range of festivals and share special occasions with the children throughout the year.

We enjoy cookery classes, making biscuits and cakes, pancakes, soups, birthday cakes and fruit salads. We have annual celebrations at Easter and Christmas. We have an Easter Bonnet parade and a Christmas party. Throughout the year the children learn lots of poems and songs. At Christmas we  bring these all together and  the children enjoy performing in our annual Christmas concert.

The children are taken out on walks and trips both in the local environment and further a field to the farm.
